I played my last round of the summer here at Angel Fire yesterday and was very pleased to be asked to join a threesome from the ranch. One has a home here and the other two and their wives were here for a visit. I had a great time and only lost a few dollars. Maybe we’ll settle the bet when we all get back to the ranch.
Mountain golf is a lot of fun but you have to get past the thin air. It’s easy to get winded especially if you are out of shape like I am. And I learned a few things. First, fescue behaves a lot differently than Bermuda. So keeping it in the short grass makes it that much easier.
I also learned the ball travels farther here which is not the big advantage you’d think it’d be. Instead of a full swing from 100 yards, I can’t tell you number of 70 yards and less shots I had to the green. I’ll have to go back to a Dave Pelz article and see if I can figure out how to turn my 4 wedges into 12 distances I can count on. I actually like to practice and finding the time won’t be that big a challenge.
So, that’s it for this season from Angel Fire.
Cheers.
