Have you noticed how the networks pander to golf’s #1? CBS really over does it and while NBC is a distant second to them, they’re still guilty. I realize that’s it’s all about ratings and from what I saw, NBC pretty much kicked butt with their U.S. Open coverage, especially the final holes.
What struck me though was the leaderboard double standard. On Sunday, when Tiger tied for the lead 2 holes behind the leader, NBC’s television leaderboard put him on top. Until that time, the leaderboard was based on overall score and the most holes played.
But, it is Tiger and when Tiger’s in the field he commands the coverage. Heck, even if he’s not in contention it’s still news because everyone expects him to win.
