A Golf Pro's Favorite Time of the Month

It's no secret that a club pro isn't going to get rich on their salary so they supplement their income with lessons. I suspect some do pretty well - face it, golfers will try just about anything to lower their scores.

That's what the club pro counts on - trying just about anything. So, what's their favorite time of the month?

I think it's 4 to 7 days right after the latest issues of Golf Digest and Golf Magazine hit the stands. In our quest for lower scores, we're going to try those tips and tricks and in so doing, we're probably going to screw up something in the process.

That means it's back to the lesson tee for thee and me.

I've been a long time subscriber to a couple of golf magazine monthly's. Each has their playing editors as well as prominent instructors.

In any given issue, you can read about getting more distance or how to consistently hit it close to the pin.

There's even tips on how to eliminate those pesky 3 putt greens.

You know what? There's never any mention that practice might just help, even a little bit.

Amazing, huh?

Golf Tees

You know, those wonderfully colorful, mostly wooden things you use for a perfect lie when hitting a tee shot?

How come so many of you use such long tees? Look around the next time you’re teeing off on a short par 4 or par 3. You will probably find quite a few broken tees and if you look with a bit more discerning eye, you’ll also find the original tee was one of those very long ones.

They break easily because you have to mash it too far into the ground so when the ball is struck, the tee puts up just enough resistance to snap when it’s hit. I’m sure many of you use broken tees on par 3s but very few will use one on a par 4.

Next time, try a shorter tee, preferably one with a good sharp point – you only have to push it in far enough so it will hold a ball. Or, wiggle the tee back and forth. Enlarging the hole the tee is in reduces resistance so when you smack it, it might not break.

I even find broken tees on par 5s – go figure.
