Several days ago, our local daily ran a piece on the difficulty in attracting top 10 pro golfers to the EDS Byron Nelson Championship at the end of April. As the commitment deadline approaches, the only top 10’er with a commitment to play was Phil Mickelson. Sad, huh?
Todd Hamilton, just down the road in Westlake, believes the problem has to do with “an average golf course that is usually not in very good shape. And that’s not a good combination”.
I’ve played the Fours Seasons track three times just before the tournament week. The setup was wonderful and the course was immaculate. The Salesmanship Club of Dallas does a great job and the ‘Nelson’ is regularly one of the top PGA Tour stops for charitable contributions.
So Todd, shut up and play golf. Last time I looked, you missed the cut at the Verizon Heritage and you’re #216 in Fedex Cup points.
