In the end, the decision was pretty easy. I’ve elected to retire from Sabre and American Airlines on 12/31. The fact that my job was eliminated entitles me to severance and that will come in handy. The dual retirement option was from an agreement back in 1996 when Sabre spun-off from American. I suppose I could have landed somewhere but landing is the last thing I wanted to do. I can’t imagine being stuck in a job that I didn’t look forward to doing every day. If an opportunity presents itself, I’ll certainly consider it.
There’s some disappointment but no hard feelings. Between now and the end of the year, my focus will be on getting our blog system public facing. We’ve made some progress but still have a way to go.
