In a move that Cendant, the parent of Galileo International’s Apollo GDS, says was expected, United Airlines announced they will be migrating to the Amadeus GDS in late 2008. Galileo actually supports two GDS platforms – Apollo and Galileo. Apollo is used only in North America and Japan. The move is being done in part to align Star Alliance carriers with a common IT platform.
Some are already speculating that the move will signal the end of the Apollo GDS.
