I’ve been having a dialogue with a blogger that I’ve never met, but feel like I know her, and was struck by something she said. The dialogue started after my post about the comment policy at Naked Conversations. I guess Shel and Robert have been getting some real comment dreck at the blog and the after effects were taking a toll on both. Robert wound up taking a week off blogging to have a second look at why he blogged, what he got out of it, etc.
Our conversation got into comment policies in general and specifically whether I had one and if so, what it was. Well, I said I didn’t - didn’t need one because I don’t get nearly the traffic or passion associated posts that Robert and Shel generate. Invariably, our chat got into Robert’s situation and we surprised each other that, while we don’t know him personally, we felt genuinely bad for what was going on.
I guess that’s just one of the things that blogging is all about – honest compassion for one another based pretty much on what you learn about someone through what they write.
I’m glad to be a part of that and I’m sure Sue is also.
