Another Slant on Identity Theft
We are all concerned (if not, perhaps you should be) about identity theft. Well, Addison over at the IAG blog uncovered a nugget about card keys that hotels use – in addition to your name, they are also encoded with your room number, check-in and out dates, and a partial home address and the credit card number you used at check-in.
So, next time you check out of a hotel that uses the card key system, keep the card. Your data is a lot safer in your pocket/purse than it would be in a drawer behind the front desk. Yes, when they’re re-used, your data get over written but there’s no telling how long it’s going to take for that to happen.
I’d exercise on the side of caution.
