It’s been almost two years since my team developed a prototype of biometric applications for the travel industry. It included voice recognition and finger print scans. We gave it a go but it never really caught on – back then, I suppose it was considered a bit invasive.
MSNBC is now reporting that Piggly Wiggly grocery stores in South Carolina will use finger print scan technology for payment. Once the print is scanned, an electronic wallet appears and the customer selects an account. That’s it.
Plus, the system developed by Pay By Touch of San Francisco for Piggly Wiggly will also work with other retailers that deploy the technology.
