Who would have thought the GDS numbers would grow to five?
Today, the agent-owned GDS Genesis went live. Today’s first phase launch will be a gradual migration to a full production environment and the target customers are small to medium sized travel agencies.
Genesis’ president and CEO said this is “the perfect solution for agencies which do not want to commit to GDS minimum productivity requirements or segment thresholds”.
The internet based, open architecture platform uses farespider for low fare search and booking.
Genesis, for the near term, will focus on Canadian agencies. Other countries will follow.
So, Genesis joins the likes of Sabre, Worldspan, Galileo, and Amadeus. Welcome aboard and good luck.
