For as long as I can remember, it seemed as if it took forever for the water in the kitchen to get hot enough to run the dishwasher. Yeah, I know, deal with it - It probably ran no more than 2 minutes and in the grand scheme of things, that probably translated to several gallons three times a week. But, over the course of the years we lived there, that amounted to somewhere near 6500 gallons of water.
The children are grown and long since have move out so we sold the house and late last year we closed on a new home - one with a water heater very close to the kitchen so hot water for the dishwasher was not going to be a problem. Unfortunately, the baths are as far from the water heater as possible and it takes 2:50 for the water to get hot enough to be able to get in without going into shock from the cold water.
When we bought the house, they had an option to install a circulation system - hot water would always be in the pipes and it would only cost $1010.00. Thought that was a bit high so we opted out. But, waiting for hot water for a shower was really getting annoying so a Google web search for "hot water comfort system" uncovered a link to Grundfos and a system that was precisely what I was looking for.
And better yet, for the do it yourselfer (not me) parts were just a bit more than $300. Found a plumber locally that charged $499 which for me is a god-send because I'm not all that handy.
So, my time in the shower is now shorter than the time it took for the hot water to start flowing. I am a very happy camper.
